WHAT IS HR 4437?

HR 4437 is The Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. U.S. House of Representatives passed this measure on December 16, 2005, by vote of 239 to 182. It is also known as the "Sensenbrenner Bill," for its sponsor in the House of Representatives, (R) Jim Sensenbrenner.

As passed by the House, it contains the following:

ONE: Requires up to 700 miles (1120 km) of fence along the US-Mexican border at points with the highest number of immigrant crossings;

TWO: Providing housing for anyone without documentation will be considered a felony and subject to no less than 3 years in prison. This would include family members;

THREE: All children born to undocumented immigrants in the United States will become wards of the state;

FOUR: People could be denied entry based on their political views:

FIVE: It would be a crime to "assist" an illegal immigrant to "remain in the United States."
